Hutt Lagoon

Pink isn’t the earthiest of colours. Musk sticks, fairy floss, lipstick, strawberry milk; these are the things that spring to mind when thinking of the colour pink, not large expanses of salt lakes.

Collected over a period of 3 years photographer Steve Back has taken these aerial photographs of Hutt Lagoon on the coast of mid-west Australia. Unearthly in appearance Hutt Lagoon is in fact a natural phenomenon due to the presence of the carotenoid-producing algae Dunaliella salina.
