Print Picks: Rodarte’s Brain // NYFW

Rodarte Spring 2013 – Brain Print

As always spring is the season for prints, so the next few posts on our blog will be dedicated to the prints that caught our eye at the fashion week showings for Spring 2013. First up: Rodarte.

With previous seasons inspired by the Australian outback, the paintings of Vincent van Gough and the Great Plains of the American Midwest, Spring 2013 felt a little more hardened (in a good way) – a departure from the adolescent, wispy femininity that usually drives their aesthetic. For this season the Mulleavy sisters created a medieval fantasy world, made with the same adventurous usage of appliqué and textile craft that have made the designers such a respected creative force in fashion.

First up on the runway were the mini dresses, worn over brain-print shiny lyrca turtlenecks in peach, lavender and aqua, shadowed with black. A brain is not the most appealing of texture, but the dresses looked incredibly striking.
